Greetings and salutations!

Today, I am celebrating my first (ever!) blog post. Although I am immensely excited to dive into the many topics I have planned for future posts, I thought it best to properly introduce myself in a more personal manner.

My name is Kate, or as others know me–Kaitlyn. I am an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studying public health and chemistry with minors in psychology and mathematics.

When I’m not nose-deep in a book or listening to music, you can usually find me hanging out with my lovely partner, playing casual video games, or strolling in our local park.

My partner and I have one orange kitty cat, named Ember. She is our beacon of love, cuddles, and, occasionally, irritation. Though Ember is people-shy, her characteristically orange spunk is evident in the presence of dried shrimp (Her favorite treat!) and her obsession with stealing any rouge hair-ties. I believe that no blog is complete without a furry co-author.

Ember and her toy mouse!

As I have mentioned in my ‘About Me’ blurb, my interests vary across multiple disciplines, and science is in my soul! My ultimate goal with this blog is to spread the beauty, art, and wonder of science, especially as it occurs in our day-to-day lives.

My love for science began at a young age. Growing up in a tiny rural town granted me the privilege of a full nightime sky, unadulterated from city light pollution. During nighttime car rides, my eyes were always intensely fixated on the moon–indiscriminate of its phases–and on the spattering of stars in the sky. After a while, my neck would begin to cramp or I would drift asleep, lulled by thoughts of the moon…and aliens (Scary!).

My mind would writhe with curiosities about foreign planets–worlds entirely unlike our own. Being a bookworm as a child gifted me a boundless imagination, one that colors how I view the universe today.

Together, we will paint an imaginative picture of our modern world, zooming into the intricate mechanisms and rules that command life. Our journey begins with childlike curiosity—questioning and exploring everything from the smallest feats to the tallest mountains.

Thanks for joining me!

Warm regards,

Kate
